Below is a list of all the ingredients you will need to make everything you need to keep your home clean. I've even provided information on where to find the ingredients. You should also get some spray bottles, the ones on the cleaning supply aisle with the mops are the best, and some glass jars. I like the mason jars used for preserving and pickling the best. You may have to ask at your grocery store where these can be found, but Winn Dixie and Wal-mart both carry them with their small appliances.
- White Vinegar
- (Available on the condiments aisle of most grocery stores.) Vinegar disinfects and breaks up dirt. Choose white vinegar over apple cider or red vinegars, as these might stain surfaces.
- Baking Soda
- (Available on the laundry aisle or baking aisle of most grocery stores.) Baking Soda provides grit for scrubbing and reacts with water, vinegar or lemon by fizzing, which speeds up cleaning times. Baking Soda also deodorizes, reduces static in the laundry and softens fabrics.
- Lemons or Lemon Juice
- (Available in produce section or juice section of most grocery stores.) Lemon Juice works to cut grease. Bottled lemon juice also works well, although you might need to use bit more to get the same results.
- Borax
- (Available on the laundry aisle of most grocery stores.) Borax disinfects, bleaches and deodorizes and is very handy in laundry mixes.
- Olive Oil
- (Usually found on the baking aisle of most grocery stores.) Olive oil picks up dirt and polishes wood. Even the cheaper grades work well .
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- (Found in the first aid section of most grocery or drug stores.) Hydrogen peroxide disinfects and bleaches. I've read that you need a 6% solution to use as a substitute for chlorine bleach in the laundry, but have found that soaking my whites in a 3% solution in hot water with my homemade laundry detergent works. I have not yet found a supplier for anything other than a 3% solution.
- Vegegable Oil Based Castile Soap
- (This is a little harder to find but can usually be found health food stores.) Castile Soap is a non-petroleum all-purpose cleaner. Dr. Bronner's is the most known and can be found usually in either liquid or bar form.
- Washing Soda
- (This has been the hardest for me to find. I get my supply from the pool section of Wal-Mart.) Washing Soda is sodium carbonate, very similar to baking soda which is sodium bicarbonate, and is used sometimes to adjust the pH levels of pools. Washing Soda is a good stain remover, and general cleaner. Washing Soda should be handled with gloves due to its caustic nature.
